The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger (Shrike) was a single-man German fighter that often went head-to-head with the British Spitfires.  In addition to dogfights, the Fw 190 was used by the Germans for bombing raids.  This aircraft was favored by several of the more famous German fighter pilots, such as Erich Rudorffer.

German manufacturer BFW first released the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in 1935 and she was used through the Spanish Civil War and all the way to the end of World War II.  The closed canopy and retractable landing gear made this fighter a unique sight in the skies over Europe.  Also known as the Me 109, she could serve as a fighter or bomber.

The Messerschmitt Me 262 Sturmvogel (Storm Bird) was a latecomer to the German Luftwaffe, not in service until 1944.  This aircraft was only the second successful jet the world had seen.  The Me 262 became the inspiration for many later jets to follow, both military and civilian.
